In depth
The longer answers.
You have questions. We have answers. Below are the 25 questions we get most often from guests booking a Hamptons yacht charter. If yours is not covered here, email us and we will answer within twoo hours.
Booking
How do I book a charter?
Email us your date, group size, and the kind of day you want. We reply with a short list of boats that fit. You pick one, we send a deposit link, and you are booked. The whole thing usually takes under an hour from first text to confirmed reservation.
How far in advance should I book?
Peak summer Saturdays get busy. Two to four weeks out is smart for July and August weekends. Weekdays and shoulder season dates are easier. Last minute openings pop up all the time, so a same week text is always worth trying.
Can I hold a date without paying?
We hold a boat for 48 hours after we send a quote. To lock a date past that, we need a deposit. This keeps things fair for other guests asking about the same date. If the boat books before you decide, we will tell you right away and suggest an alternate.
What is your cancellation policy?
Cancel more than 14 days out and you get a full refund. Between 14 and 7 days, you get a 50 percent refund or a free reschedule. Inside 7 days, the deposit is non refundable but we will move you to another open date at no cost.
Can I change my group size after booking?
Yes, up to your boat's legal capacity. If your group shrinks, no problem. If it grows past the boat's limit, we may need to move you to a bigger boat, which can change the price. Just email us as soon as you know.
Pricing
How much does a Hamptons yacht charter cost?
Small day boats start around $600 for a two hour trip. Full day sport yacht charters run $2,500 to $7,500. Event yacht days start around $10,000 and go up from there. Every quote is all in with captain included.
Is the captain included in the price?
Yes. Every quote we send includes a licensed captain because the law requires one and because we would not send you out without one. This is standard for private charters and it is already baked into the number.
Do I need to tip the crew?
Tips are appreciated but not required. Standard in the industry is 15 to 20 percent of the charter cost for a great day. If you had a stewardess or catering crew on board, factor them in too. We split tips fairly across the crew.
Is fuel included?
On day charters staying within Peconic and Gardiners Bays, yes, fuel is included in the price. For longer runs like Block Island or Fishers Island crossings, we add a fuel surcharge that we tell you about before you book.
Are there taxes and fees?
New York charges a small marine sales tax that shows up on the invoice. Otherwise there are no hidden fees. If we quote you $3,500, the tax adds around $200 and that is it.
On The Water
How long is a typical charter?
Half day trips run four hours. Full day trips run six to eight hours. Sunset cruises are usually two to three hours. Event charters can run all day or into the night. We do not do trips under two hours, since the setup time makes them poor value.
Where do we board?
Most guests board at our slip in Sag Harbor. We can also pick up in East Hampton, Montauk, Shelter Island, and Southampton on many trips. Tell us where you are staying and we will pick the easiest dock.
Can I bring my own music?
Yes. Every boat has a Bluetooth speaker system. Bring your playlist and connect your phone. We ask that you keep the volume reasonable when we are close to other boats or anchored in a quiet cove.
Can we go anywhere we want?
Mostly, yes. You tell us the vibe and any must hit spots and we build the route. Some destinations like Block Island or the ocean side of Montauk depend on weather, so we may steer you differently that day.
Can we swim off the boat?
Absolutely. Most trips include a swim stop or two. Popular spots include the sandbar off Amagansett, the swim area at Coecles Harbor, and the calm water off Cedar Point. Life jackets are on board for anyone who wants one.
Weather
What if the weather is bad?
If we cancel for weather, you get a full refund or a free reschedule. We check the marine forecast the morning of every trip and make the call by 8 am. Light rain is not usually a reason to cancel. Thunderstorms and heavy wind are.
Do you go out in rain?
Sometimes. A short passing shower is usually fine and the boats have covered areas. Steady rain or storms mean we cancel or move the date. Guest comfort and safety come first every time.
What about fog?
Coastal fog is common in early summer. We have full radar and GPS on every boat. Most fog burns off by mid morning. If it does not, we may delay the start or offer a reschedule. Safety comes first.
Kids And Pets
Are your boats kid friendly?
Yes, very much so. We carry kid size life jackets on every boat. Many of our regulars are families. Catamarans and larger sport yachts are the most stable and comfy for young kids. Tell us the ages when you book.
Can I bring my dog?
On most day boats and sport yachts, yes. Small and mid size dogs do great. On the event yachts, usually no. Tell us at booking so we pick a dog friendly boat and bring a water bowl for your pup.
Do you have life jackets for everyone?
Yes. Coast Guard rules require a properly sized life jacket for every passenger on board, and we go beyond that. We carry infant, child, and adult sizes, plus inflatable belt style jackets for guests who prefer them.
Food And Drinks
Can I bring my own food and drinks?
Yes, always. Bring a cooler with whatever you want. Beer, wine, and hard alcohol are all fine on board. Just no glass on the swim platform please, and no drugs.
Can you arrange catering?
Yes. We work with a short list of great local kitchens in Sag Harbor and East Hampton. Charcuterie, sushi, lobster rolls, full plated dinners, whatever you want. Order at least 48 hours ahead of your trip.
Overnight
Can I sleep on the boat overnight?
Yes, on our sport yachts 45 feet and up and on the event yachts. Overnight rates include a captain who stays on board or a nearby hotel depending on the setup. Great for a Block Island run or a Shelter Island weekend.
Do overnight charters include meals?
Not by default, but we can add breakfast, lunch, and dinner catering. Many guests do a mix, catering one meal and dining ashore for another. We know the best dockside spots in every port.
