Charter Type

Sandbar Day

Anchor in three feet of water. Do not move for hours.

The classic East End charter. We drop the anchor at the sandbar off Shelter or in Shinnecock Bay, put out the floating mats, and stay there. Groups can walk in the shallows, swim in the deeper water off the stern, and eat lunch aboard. Music at a reasonable volume. Kids happy. Adults happy. Half-day is enough, full-day is the version most people prefer. Bring what you want to eat and drink, or let us cater.

Sample day

  1. 11:00 amBoarding. Ice loaded, mats ready.
  2. 11:45 amAnchor at the sandbar.

  4. 3:30 pmSlow cruise back.

Recommended boats

The sandbar is where the East End slows down. Anchor up. Music on. Feet in the water. Cooler open. A Hamptons sandbar charter with us is the easiest kind of good day. No plan needed. Just show up and hang.

We are Captains Carter and Sean. We run sandbar days out of Sag Harbor all summer. We know the best sandbars for the tide, the wind, and the crowd you want. Cedar Point, spots in Gardiners Bay, and a few we keep quiet. We take you to the right one for your day.

What makes a great sandbar day on the water

A great sandbar day is about picking the right spot at the right time.

Tide matters most. A sandbar that is a foot deep at high tide might be dry sand two hours later. We read the tide chart for your date and time the trip so the water is right when you get there.

Crowd matters too. On a hot summer Saturday, some sandbars turn into a party. Others stay quiet. Tell us the vibe you want. We pick the spot to fit.

Wind matters for comfort. A calm sandbar is a good sandbar. If the wind picks up, we can move to a lee spot in Gardiners Bay or tuck into a cove.

We handle the boat. You handle the fun.

A sample sandbar day with us (hour by hour)

Here is a normal 6 hour Hamptons sandbar charter.

  • 10:30 a.m. Meet in Sag Harbor. Load your cooler, floats, and bags. Safety chat.
  • 11 a.m. Cruise out at an easy pace. Music on. First drink open.
  • 11:45 a.m. Anchor at Cedar Point sandbar or a spot in Gardiners Bay. Drop the ladder. Floats out.
  • 12 p.m. Swim, float, hang. Music at a fun volume.
  • 1 p.m. Lunch on board. Sandwiches, snacks, or catering.
  • 2 p.m. Move to a second spot if you want. Sometimes we stay put all day.
  • 3 p.m. Water toys. Paddleboards, tube ride, a giant lily pad, or a snorkel try.
  • 4 p.m. Last swim. Pack up.
  • 4:30 p.m. Cruise back to Sag Harbor.

We build the day around what you want. Some groups anchor once and stay all day. Others hit two or three spots. Both work.

Best boats for a sandbar day

Sandbar days work on any boat, but comfort matters.

  • 2 to 6 friends: A day boat with a swim ladder and a good stereo.
  • 6 to 12 friends: A mid size cruiser with a head on board, shade, and room for coolers and floats.
  • 12 to 30 friends: A larger yacht with a big swim platform.
  • 30 to 85 guests: Our 122 ft event yacht for a full company or family sandbar party.

A swim platform makes a huge difference on a sandbar day. Every boat in our fleet has an easy way in and out of the water.

What to bring and wear

Pack for a beach day on water.

  • Swimsuits and cover ups.
  • Reef safe sunscreen. Reapply.
  • Hats and sunglasses.
  • Water shoes if you do not like squishy sand under your feet.
  • A dry bag for phones.
  • Snacks and drinks. We supply ice, cups, and a cooler.
  • Cans and pouches only. No glass.

Bring your favorite floats. Big loungers, giant swans, or lily pads all fit on our boats.

Add-ons that pair well with a sandbar day

Sandbar days get better with the right extras.

  • Catering: Sandwich platters, tacos, sushi, or a full lunch spread from a Hamptons kitchen.
  • Bar package: Pre-stocked drinks so you skip the store run.
  • Water toys: Tube, paddleboards, snorkel gear, and a giant lily pad.
  • Stewardess: A crew member to serve drinks and food.
  • Photographer: A pro to shoot the day for a birthday or a bachelorette.

Pricing and how it works

Sandbar trips are priced by boat and by hour.

  • Half day (4 hours) is great for a smaller group or a shorter hang.
  • Full day (6 to 8 hours) is what most groups book.
  • You can add hours if the day is going great.

Text quote is flat with tax and fuel included. Deposit locks the date.

Booking tips

  • Book 2 to 6 weeks out in the summer.
  • Weekdays have quieter sandbars and often better pricing.
  • Tell us if you want a party sandbar or a quiet cove. It changes the spot.
  • Watch the moon phase. New and full moons pull big tides. We plan around them.
