Family Day

Kids swim, adults sit, everyone eats.

Family charters are our favorite kind of easy. We keep the pace slow, the shade generous, and the swim platform low. Life jackets for every kid in every size. A cooler with juice boxes, seltzer, and whatever the adults are drinking. We can plan around a nap on board, a beach stop, or a lunch anchored in a quiet cove. Groups run four to twelve. Half-day or full-day. Bring sunscreen, we bring the towels.

Recommended boats

A day on the water beats a day at the beach. No parking. No packing the car. No fighting over towels. A Hamptons family boat charter with us means you show up in Sag Harbor, step on the boat, and spend the day the way the kids want.

We are Captains Carter and Sean. We run family day trips all summer. We have kids of our own. We know what a good family day looks like and what makes it fall apart. We keep the day safe, easy, and fun.

What makes a great family day on the water

Kids run the show on a family charter. The trick is a plan that fits their age and the group's energy.

Little kids like a shallow sandbar, a stop for a quick swim, and a lot of snack breaks. Older kids want a tube ride, a paddleboard, or a jump off the boat. Teens want music and a photo they can post. Grandparents want a comfortable seat, some shade, and a smooth ride.

The good news is we can hit all of that in one day. Peconic Bay and Gardiners Bay are calm most days. Water stays warm in July and August. There are sandbars and coves that fit any age.

We keep two rules front and center. Everyone stays hydrated. Everyone has sunscreen on. The rest is easy.

Best boats for a family day

Match the boat to family size and comfort.

  • 2 to 6 people: A 22 to 28 ft day boat. Fast, simple, easy for a small family.
  • 6 to 12 people: A mid size cruiser with a head on board, shade, and room for coolers and floats.
  • 12 to 30 people: A larger yacht for a family reunion or a multi family day.
  • Up to 85 guests: Our 122 ft event yacht for a big family event like a milestone birthday or a family reunion.

All boats carry USCG required life jackets in kid sizes. Bring your own if you like a certain fit.

What to bring and wear

Pack for a beach day, not a night out.

  • Swimsuits and rash guards for the kids.
  • Reef safe sunscreen. Reapply often.
  • Hats, sunglasses, and light layers.
  • Water bottles for each person.
  • Snacks the kids actually eat. Fruit, pretzels, and cheese sticks work.
  • A change of clothes for the ride home.
  • A dry bag for phones and wallets.

Skip glass. Bring cans, pouches, and plastic water bottles.

Add-ons that pair well with a family day

Family trips are already great, but a few add-ons make them easier.

  • Catering: Kid friendly lunches, sandwich trays, or a full family spread from a local kitchen.
  • Water toys: Tube for kids or teens, paddleboards, snorkel gear, and pool floats.
  • Beach stop: We can anchor near a swim beach and take you in on the tender.
  • Fishing package: A rod and bait so kids can try to catch a bay species.
  • Stewardess: An extra crew member to help with kids and food.
